The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound) is a tripartite European Union Agency established in 1975. Its role is to provide knowledge in the area of social, employment and work-related policies according to Regulation (EU) 2019/127.

Since its establishment, Eurofound has developed a strong knowledge base in the areas of industrial relations, working conditions, labour markets and structural change, and living conditions and quality of life. This knowledge was developed through a combination of internal research and communication capabilities with the skills and experience of external experts through service contracts and networking.

The Network of Eurofound Correspondents ('the Network') contributes to all Eurofound's core areas of research by providing national-level data and research findings. This allows Eurofound to map and compare developments and trends, policies, practices and regulations in industrial relations, working conditions, employment and labour markets, and social policy, including where no harmonised Europe-wide data sources exist and where quantitative or qualitative information is required.

National correspondents report regularly on developments in working life, the labour market and restructuring, allowing Eurofound to update its databases and other information sources.

The specific services under the contracts are described below and they may be broken into the following tasks:

  • Monitoring and reporting on developments in working-life
  • Contributing to comparative research and thematic work
  • Validation and/or update of existing databases
  • Supporting Eurofound outreach at the national level
  • Provision of other and supplementary services on-demand
