The project examines the multilayered social implications of monetary and digital transformation that shape all segments of contemporary society. It focuses on the Republic of Croatia’s accession to the euro area and the announced introduction of the digital euro (CBDC – Central Bank Digital Currency) by the European Central Bank, alongside the growing integration of advanced technologies into the financial industry and the broader social context. Technological innovations are transforming business operations, the structure and competencies of the workforce, product development, and relationships with clients, but they also pose challenges for citizens, businesses, and the public sector. Intensive digitalization raises concerns regarding privacy protection, data misuse, and increased exposure to cyber risks. Moreover, changes in the labor market demand continuous adaptation and the development of new competencies.

The project therefore aims to analyze the effects of Croatia’s entry into the euro area, investigate the impact of introducing the CBDC on the financial system, citizens, and businesses, and assess the effects of technological progress on financial institutions, financial markets, and the economy. Special attention is given to examining the level of digital and financial literacy among citizens, as well as the perception and acceptance of new technologies in the provision of financial, public, and other services. The project also analyzes labor market changes driven by digitalization and the need for new skills, the role of regulatory and supervisory authorities in ensuring security, transparency, and privacy, and finally, the impact of digital technologies on young people—their competencies, expectations, and position in the digital society.
