Associate Professor Ante Mandić participated in the international workshop "Destination Management Approaches to Support Balanced Tourism Development", held in Zagreb on 28–29 May 2026. The event was jointly organised by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the European Commission (DG MOVE), and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia.

The workshop brought together policymakers, destination management professionals, representatives of international organisations, and researchers to exchange knowledge and discuss contemporary approaches to destination management and sustainable tourism development.

As part of the programme, Associate Professor Mandić moderated the panel discussion "Designing and Implementing Destination Management Plans to Support Balanced Tourism." The panel featured representatives from Innsbruck Tourismus (Austria), the City of Barcelona (Spain), the Međimurje County Tourist Board (Croatia), and Ireland's Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment.

The discussion focused on the development and implementation of destination management plans and their role in fostering stakeholder collaboration, managing visitor flows, and improving the quality of life of local communities.

The workshop opened with keynote presentations by Jane Stacey, Head of the Tourism Policy and Analysis Unit at the OECD, and Ramune Genzbigelytė-Venturi, Tourism Policy Officer at the European Commission (DG MOVE). Both speakers highlighted the growing importance of effective destination management in supporting the sustainable development of tourism.

Associate Professor Mandić's participation in this high-level international event further demonstrates his recognised expertise in destination management and contributes to the international visibility of the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, University of Split, and its academic staff in discussions shaping the future of tourism.
